The Chopard Mille Miglia 2006 Gran Turismo XL is a numbered edition watch collection with only 2,006 pieces produced as a tribute to the Mille Miglia Race this year. The Mille Miglia is a 1,000 km (~621.5 mile) race organized in Italy every summer. The racetrack stretches from Rome to Presca and back to Rome. The watchcase is made of premium stainless steel. It measures 44mm and it has a sapphire crystal, a screw down winding crown, and caseback engraved with the race road. It is water-resistant up to 328 feet. The strap is made of black rubber with a Dunlop Racing tire profile.
In 1988, Karl and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, correspondingly President and Co-President of Chopard Watch Co., and both committed aficionados of classic automobiles, decided to sponsor this famous tournament. They have also participated in the race. This year, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and Jacky Ickx drive a 1955 Porsche 550RS. Participants naturally hope for lovely weather, which does not always come up to their expectations.

Chopard seems to have given up its tradition by introducing not a chronograph, but the Mille Miglia 2006 Gran Turismo XL for its latest Mille Miglia collection. The new timepiece, called Gran Turismo XL, pays tribute to the race in Italy in 2006. The watch is a new exclusive product for which Chopard Co. has put its whole heart and soul. It has an extra large size, with a steel watchcase featuring 44mm in diameter and water-resistant up to 328 feet; Gran Turismo XL, fitted with a COSC –certified chronometer movement with the largest automatic caliber on the market, is a genuine champion of reliability and durability. The caseback features the Mille Miglia roadmap. The wristwatch may be worn on either a black rubber band with tire-tread motif or a leather band, both fitted with a folding clasp. Each team gets an engraved "Competitor" limited edition watch numbered from 1 to 375. A second limited and numbered series of 2006 made of steel and 18-carat rose gold has been purchasable at Veschetti Gioielli from April 15, 2006.
