The largest international research – an Internet users poll – was carried out by ACNielsen company in the previous year. The poll was aimed and finding out custumers’ opinion on economic situation, their shopping habits, intentions concerning future purchases and the attitude towards topical problems. More than 21100 people (38 countries) older than 16 and who use the Internet at least once a week were involved in the research.
The results of the research show that the respondents from Germany, Austria and Great Britain had tried to purchase almost everything online shops offer. Even in those countries where online shopping turned out to be unpopular people buy things in the internet. Generally speaking, during the last two years Internet retail sales volume has become almost four times bigger and exceeded a quarter of billion dollars.
Most people buy in the Internet books, music, movies and games. The reason for this products’ popularity is quite evident. For example if you buy a book, than you certainly know its title and the name of the author, so you are not going to be given something different. Also you do not have to check whether it is in order and whether it really, unlike when you are buying a household appliance.

As well the researches showed, that online shopping is more popular with men (80 per cent) than with women (74 per cent). Probably this can be explained by the fact that women like the very process of shopping – walking about shops together with friends, looking at bright shopwindows, talking to shop assistants, etc. Besides this, most products offered by online shops are related to electronics and consequently mostly attract men’s attention.
